Dongle not working on new motherboards?

Hello,

I've purchased Fastcam and tried to install it in a Ryzen5 CPU and the Dongle doesn´t work. my motherboard is a gigabyte a320m-s2h v2. If tried to put the dongle in other computers and the light goes on and it starts to onstall the drivers, but not on this computer, no light at all. I supposed it was maybe a setting in the motherboard, as I tried in other computers with the same OS and it works. I tried reinstalling Windows and also tried BIOS update for more USB compatibility but nothing.

Please help

thank you

Hi Daniel,

Usually that is a symptom of the computer not getting the drivers for the dongle correctly, which means it can't be read and won't light up. You can try this guide:

http://response.fastcam.com/knowledge-base/article/fastcam-windows-10-with-a-unikey-dongle_1

That will walk you through getting the drivers installed!

Done this putting dlls in wow64 and still nothing. The dongle does absolutelly nothing in device manager when plugin in. I've ordered a gygabyte 450 and hope to get it to work. It's really not a software problem. I also disables security option on bios but it just doesn´t get recognized as a device.

I'll let you know about. I'm pretty sure that it it a hardware problem, Ryzen? Chipset? Don't really know. I've got exactly the same windows istallation in other computers and it starts flashing, new device protocoll and everything ok.

thank you

By the way, it's quite complicated download the dll from fastcamusa

Hi Daniel,

Can you please let me know the dongle number you are trying to run? Also is it a Grey / Black USB dongle? Can you also let me know what version of windows you are trying to run? 32/64 bit, Win 7/8/10.

Hello Alex,

Thanks for your answer.

I've got a Red dongle, number 088248xx and w10 x64 up to date. Today I've received a gygabyte B450m motherboard and just changing the motherboard, the dongle worked. Then I wanted to make a clean installation of w10 with the new motherboard and... SAME AGAIN!! It's getting me crazy . I just can not find out wath causes the problem. I've done this with the dlls again but nothing and I just don't know why it worked before and how to get it to work.

I'll keep trying

thank you

Hi,

It seems that I have the same problem. I cant get the usb dongle recognized in my PC. Tried all the usb ports but the light stays off and there is no indication in windows that it is connected.

My specs are: Ryzen 5 CPU, x470 chipset motherboard (with latest bios).

I am running W10 pro 64bit v1903, all updates, all drivers (usb included) up to date.

The usb dongle is working fine in other PCs.

Is there a solution to that issue? What should I do? Thank you in advance.

Eventually I solved it by installing an Inateck 5-Port USB 3.0 PCI-E Card KTU3FR-5O2I to my PC and connecting the USB dongle there.

Nevertheless there must be a compatibility issue with newer hardware (maybe motherboard chipset/ CPU or Windows) as I have also tried the usb dongle on an other PC with Ryzen 5 and B450 chipset motherboard, and it did not work either.

Thank for your update. Between yourself and daniel the common denominator here does look to be issue on the CPU+motherboard side.

Your work around with 3rd party USB card suggests the problem is specific to the integrated USB port, Does the motherboard have a mix of USB2.0 and USB3.0 ports? Does the dongle work/not working only in one version of the USB ports?

It may need a particular version of the motherboard USB driver, and the "latest" offering from the automatic windows update may have overwrote an older working driver for the integrated ports.

If you're already on windows v1903 or later, and running earlier windows build is not an option, then it could be worth trying to reinstall the original chipset drivers relating to the integrated USB.

Related to motherboard drivers is the motherboard BIOS. it could be a particular version of the BIOS that had the problem with integrated USB.
