Setting up FastCAM on Windows 10

I'm having difficulty getting FastCAM 7 to work on Windows 10

I have followed all the instructions on this topic on how to do it but the dongle won't recognise correctly. Windows keeps seeing it as a USB input device and because the drivers are presented as a .dll I cannot manually choose the specific driver for the dongle. I've removed and reset and "in and out" the dongle so many times in many different ways. It just doesn't work.

Please assist.

Hi John,

What is your dongle number?

Does the LED on the dongle stay ON without blinking when plugged in?

Dongle number is 00070342.

The light stays on solid red.

This is an older dongle, issued before FastCAMv7. By itself it will only allow you to run up to FastCAM v5.10.

You may have been issued a KEYFILE to match this dongle number, then that might be your missing puzzle.

look for a file called 70342.KEY in your old pc if you had FastCAM7 previously working it, or from your email archive if you have been sent this file previously.

As well you must have the sense_lc.dll driver file. There's no need for you to specify it in windows. If the dll file is present in the correct location, as you plug in the dongle it will know to setup the driver according. Mostly like you've already done this and the keyfile for v7 is the hurdle now.

In what directory do I expect the KEYFILE to exist in?

Do I just place it in the corresponding directory on the new PC?

It is normally in the FastCAM Folder.

C:\Program Files\FastCAM for 32bit Windows.

and

C:\Program Files (x86)\FastCAM for 64bit Windows.

Yes place it into the corresponding directory on new PC.

The file does not exist on the existing working Windows 7 PC.

Please advise me what to do next.

If that's the case then you're likely running version5.10,

you can check it by going to "-control pt" menu, "about"

http://response.fastcam.com/knowledge-base/article/how-to-find-your-fastcam-version-number

which would also mean you will need to uninstall v7 and reinstall from v5.10 install disc instead.

Otherwise do you have another dongle running on your Windows 7? If you have a second dongle can you tell me the other dongle number?

Only the one dongle. Here is the properties box from the fastcam executable

As you can see we are definitely running V7. What could be the issue do you think?

Hi John,

v7.0 series is same as the v5.10. So yes your dongle should be able to run 7.0 (but not 7.1 / 7.2 / 7.3 ...) pardon the way our versioning happened with this series.

Is this the same version you have running on the Windows 10 pc?

Do you have any outstanding Windows updates to be done? We've come across some cases where windows update had to be completed before the dongle would work.Pending windows update stopped the dongle drivers being configured properly.

Then after checking Windows update, try running FastCAM by right clicking on it and running it as "Administrator"
