Can't open Fastcam

Hello! I have been using Fastcam and Fastnest without any issues for a week, but today, when trying to open the application, I encountered the following messages in a loop:

When I close all three, they keep reopening 5 or 6 times. Afterward, the application launches but throws this error:

I already tried the solution proposed in this post:

However, I’m still experiencing the same issue when trying to open the application. I’ve tried using the key in all the USB ports on my computer, and the error persists. I also tried restarting the computer, uninstalling the application, deleting all the leftover files and folders, reinstalling, and I still get the same results. The application won’t open, and I keep seeing the same messages. I am super sure that the USB key is not the problem, since I installed Fastcam in other computer and it works perfectly.

Be sure to restart your PC as well to make sure that isn't a factor.

Thanks Alex for your time and help. I tried everything in that link, but nothing works, I still have the exact same problem.


I've been noticing some other users have the same issue, is any other solution to this?

Hi Alonso,

It could be that your dongle is no longer functional, and as such you no longer have a valid dongle. You can try installing on another PC to see if you get the same behavior.


If that is the case, then the only option is a new license of FastCAM 9:

Actually, im using the dongle in other computes to do my projects, but in my personal computer is the only place I have this issue, so im pretty sure the dongle is not the problem. My computer is on the expensive spectrum and is pretty new, and I have had no issues with other software.

Hi Alonso,

Then it is something to do with that machine. As it is old software, there is little more I can recommend here. You may have to look at the latest V9 of FastCAM, which most certainly will run on the latest machines.

Hi have the same problem, brought a new computer loaded FastCam and no problems. But

yesterday the same problem happened.

Still works on my old computer, have only had fastcam for less than 2 years.

Hi Daniel,

The ALREADY_OPEN message is an indication that another piece of software has access to the FastCAM dongle, and has not released access to it.


This is a tricky one, it is not FastCAM that's the problem, FastCAM is prevented to get to the dongle by one of the many application you will have installed on your PC.

You may need to go through the list of installed application and hunt down which other application has done this. As this happened recently, the first suspects are any new applications / updated applications / windows updates that were installed.

And if you have already tried restarting windows and the same error shows, then check through the applications that do open on windows startup, close them one by one to see if it frees up access to the dongle.


If rolling back is an option, then you might consider rolling back your PC to a backup before this started happening.

Then there's always FastCAMv9 subscription you can have a look at signing up to, since v8 from 2018, the subscription version does not require a dongle.
