FastCAM FastPATH

Need Answer

I am fairly new to the CNC scene and am using FastCAM 7 to generate my gcode for my cnc plasma. I am trying to generate the cutting path using FastPATH but cannot seem to be able to get the cut path to enter/exit on the inside of the cut.

The design is a simple metal screen with various cutouts. I need to cut on the inside but the path setup is not working for me. I get errors saying 'No outside process set' and 'CUTTING used for outside cutting'. The path is then generated with the drawing showing entry/exits on the outside rather then the inside and the cutouts seem to be a larger size than the original, I guess because the cut is around the outside rather than the inside.

Can I get some pointers where I am going wrong.

Hi Kyle,

"No outside process set" would suggests that you can look at configuring FastPATH settings.

Under Process tab, you will want to have selected the "CUTTING" Process and set the side to "BOTH".

You can review this FastCAM TV video "Single Part Programming" for an example part with FastPATH settings:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnNMi95neAk

(noting that in this video, the process selected is name specifically "PLASMA". In your setup, you may only have "CUTTING" process", which is not of corcern, as your CUTTING process is correctly allow you to cut on your machine.)

when cutting the machine will apply kerf compensation related to the cutting direction, so yes you need the cutting direction corrected to get the correct sizing, and to get the part cut on the better side of the plasma arc.

Hi Jackson,

Thank you for your reply and the link to the video. Over the weekend I have been playing with the settings mentioned in the video. However, I still cannot get internal entries as FastPATH always generates external entries. I have checked my drawing and all loops are closed.

If I try to manually 'Edit Entries' I can only move the entries to a different point around the outside of the shape.

Take an example of a simple rectangle with several holes. The outer most contour the rectangle is consider the external.

The holes will then be considered internals.

Does your drawing have any additional rectangles encompassing the part? If that is the case, what you will get is outer most contour as external. Inside this the next sets of fully closed contours are considered Internal. And any further closed contour inside the "internals" are considered parts nested inside a large "hole" and is back to being externals.

So it can depend a bit on your drawing.

Did you receive the email i've sent to you?

If you can, i would suggest emailing through the drawing you're working with to my email address.

jackson.fung@fastcam.com.au

If the drawing is all good, then you maybe looking a setting under "Nest Options" in FastPATH.

"Outline shown" needs to match the drawing being pathed for correct identification of External/Internal.

I can see where I have gone wrong now. My drawing did not have an outer most contour so my internals were being seen as externals.

I have amended my drawing with an outer contour and fastPATH is now showing internal entries how I wanted.

Thank you very much for your help.

Regards,

Kyle
